Meet Hayley! Owner of Dot The Monster Productions!
1. “Dot The Monster” is such a fun name — what’s the story behind it and how did your company get started?
My sister and I had a cat growing up who was nicknamed Dot the Monster. I like the name because it is both feminine and fierce, which is what I aspire to be. The logo is turtle-ish because the cat had a stuffed turtle that she carried like a baby. The dinosaur and unicorn elements, as well as pink and purple, are for my two daughters and their unique personalities. The name is meaningful to me because it reflects both the personal and professional aspects of my life.
2. What kinds of productions or creative projects do you specialize in?
DIGITAL DELIVERABLES: Custom Logos / Graphics, Websites, Newsletter/Copywriting, Video/Photo/Podcast Content, Printables/Pricing Lists, Expo Booths, More

3. Creativity comes in many forms — what inspired you to pursue a career (and business) in media/production?
I began with a Bachelors in Music Education at Concordia College in Moorhead and taught in public schools from 2015-2022. I left teaching but continue to teach music privately. I started Dot the Monster, my digital marketing business, as a creative way to make money and support small local businesses. I am skilled at learning, engaging attention, explaining information, and telling stories so marketing is a great fit for me.
4. What’s one early experience or project that helped shape Dot The Monster into what it is today?
I remember my first check from a client. It was a great feeling to see my work becoming income for my family. It feels really good to be my own boss and seeing a check was physical evidence that I am responsible for my own business.

5. What do you enjoy most about working with clients — especially when bringing their ideas to life on camera or in production?
Dot the Monster allows me to try all kinds of different projects for all kinds of clients, which keeps me interested and motivated. I can solve problems with lots and lots of creativity and pick up slack where a client may not have time.

6. Being a production company means collaboration. How do you approach working with local businesses, artists, or community partners?
I love seeing community members interact with social posts, looking at the number of people who opened an email newsletter, and chatting in-person with the customers of my clients. It means the information is getting across and that is good for my client, my business, and our community.
7. Production and storytelling have changed a lot in recent years. What trends in media or digital storytelling are you most excited about right now?
The behind the scenes trends are my favorite. My business was based on sharing a bit of myself in my professional projects and it is very fun to help my clients express their background. It keeps the connection between communication and emotions alive, in a very similar way to what music can do for us.
8. What’s a project you’ve done that you’re especially proud of — and why?
There are a lot of projects that I am very proud of. My work with Bagg Bonanza Farm has been very rewarding. I created their logo and brand kit (colors, fonts, graphics). I updated their website and continue to maintain it with current events. I write their newsletter, communicate their public events, and run their social media. I also represent them at Expo booths which means I get to brag about how awesome their event venue is and how cool the history of the preserved buildings are. And we have lots of ideas going into the next year!
9. If someone is thinking about working with Dot The Monster Productions, what would you want them to know about your process or style?
I am extremely collaborative. I bring my experience and give plenty of suggestions, but I am serving YOUR business. What do you need? How would you like me to help? I am ready to bring your project to life by matching, or enhancing, your brand.
I adjust my process to suit you. I have clients who provide only a little direction and I take the lead so they don’t have to. I also have clients who are very detailed with their requests and I follow their instructions promptly. I am always picturing how an audience will interact with a project so I make suggestions and share drafts with my clients until we are comfortable with publishing. Then we look back on our work together to decide what to do next.

10. What’s next for Dot The Monster? Any goals, projects, or creative directions you’re excited about right now?
My goals are to continue to learn and grow. I am currently seeking new clients for 2026 and cannot wait to see what I can do for them. Need a refreshed online presence? Need a logo or brand kit? Need a quick printable design or video editing? Need someone to get the word out for you? Dot does that.
